...was a quiet day... we slept till 11am (which, to be fair, is only 5am in Boston) Then we walked around our neighborhood. We visited the rooftop of the Institute du Monde Arabe (World Arab Institute) and took a picture of Notre Dame (far left), had pizza across from the Universite Paris and walked down the Rue Mouffetard (near left) before shopping at the supermarche and the boulanger. We've been getting online at the local McDonalds, of all places, that has free wifi for customers.

Wednesday, February 9

We had a day at the Musee D'Orsay...wow wow and wow. Did I mention wow? We took a Lot of pictures... a couple of them are at the right. A few more are below...It's an old train station that houses the Impressionist painters now...also some Realism, Classisists, and Post-Impressionists. The polar bear statue was the most fun.

We walked back along the Seine, ate Italian, and went to a laundry mat where we managed to log on a different wi-fi network and do our email, upload most of this site (I don't think the movie will work yet).

Main Hall of D'Orsay-- KWM's lion impression did not impress the Lion behind her.

Ever heard the song "There Ain't Nothin' Better Than A Bear"??

- What's HE looking at?? (and why did Rob take the picture of that woman?)

I

<---- I couldn't resist this take off on the Petite Danseur... Petite and Feisty!

This is Pont Solferino- we're under the bridge about to walk up these stairs...

It's all becoming a blur... What did we do on Thursday??? Oh, I remember-- slept in, did email at Haagen Daas 1/2 the afternoon, then walked to Saint Suplice-- yes, the same one mentioned in the "DaVinci Code"... We found the Obelisk, the inlaid copper band, and the Plaque. A written disclaimer near the Obelisk made sure to deny that the church was ever a pagan temple despite the claims made in a recent work of Fiction. However, the building plans were on display and it looked like the original church was exactly lined up with the four compass points...and then the whole church was moved off those points when it was rebuilt...someone doth protest too much, methinks?

Above--the Plaque is in the foreground here and the copper band runs up the middle to the obelisk in the back. It is set up so that light falls on the plaque and the obelisk at summer and winter solstices. Pretty cool, eh?

To the left is the view from the floor of the back of the church.

...was Modern Art day. We went ot the Pompidou Centre and were treated to some interesting and some completely crazy things, man-- do I sound like a beatnik? Andy Warhol and all that, man... to the far left is one of the strangest sights. I can't remember who the artist was or what it was called but it was a room full of things hanging from nylon netting... and it smelled of spices. If you look closely you can see two people as shadows behind it. Also, Rob was very impressed by the Le Courbosier models to the left.

After the Pompidou we walked home through the Marais- the Provincetown of Paris. We got a couple more beautiful pics (see below).

Above is the Eiffel Tower from the top of the Pompidou.
To the right is a Marais courtyard and the back of Notre Dame
